Stream 50 Cent’s ‘The Kanan Tape’

50 Cent has spent most of the year in the headlines. Unfortunately for fans of the Queens-bred rapper's musical output, most of those news clippings stem from extracurricular activities, from ventures into the worlds of high-end liquor and audio hardware, to a lawsuit from Rick Ross' child's mother and the resultant bankruptcy filings, to a spat with his ex-girlfriend and criticism of Fox's runaway hit drama Empire. Thankfully, finally, we have something new to report: The Kanan Tape, a seven-track effort that ostensibly throws 50 back into the no-frills, no-holds-barred arena that was the early 2000s mixtape scene. It comes complete with guest turns by his group mate-turned-rival-turned-friend Young Buck, the newly cancer-free Boosie BadAzz, the producer Sonny Digital stepping out from behind the boards and the Dallas-born, Internet-raised curiosity Post Malone. Production is handled by Sonny, London on da Track, Alchemist, Bandplay, Scoop DeVille, Colt 45 and Illmind. Stream the new project in its entirety below, courtesy of DatPiff.

Earlier today, 50 made news by calling out the Grammys for snubbing Fetty Wap in their Best New Artist category. 50 was nominated for the award in 2004, but lost to the rock band Evanescence despite the massive success of his debut album, Get Rich or Die Trying. After debuting G-Unit (sans the incarcerated Tony Yayo) the following year and issuing his follow-up, The Massacre, he began expanding his horizons into the business world, earning scores of news stories for his involvement in the promotion and subsequent sale of Vitamin Water. His last solo full-length was 2014's Animal Ambition.
