Prodigy, one half of the legendary rap group Mobb Deep, will be releasing two books during the second half of 2016. Writer Kathy Iandoli will be collaborating with the hip-hop vet for the two books.

Commissary Kitchen is a cookbook that details Prodigy’s prison experience through his meals. They're recipes that range from the prison offerings he had while others will act as pinpoints of what Prodigy experienced throughout his three years prison term. The book will detail how he handle his sickle cell anemia behind bars and other inmates trials and tribulations. Commissary Kitchen is ten chapters long and will tackle issues such as inmates’ living conditions and prison reform.

The State vs Albert “Prodigy” Johnson is the follow-up memoir of Prodigy's My Infamous Life, which released back in 2011. The new memoir will chronicle the vet's overall prison experience, the challenges of life after prison and the effects that the prison term has had on his personal life and career. Prodigy served three and a half years in the Middle State Prison Facilities after being charged with illegal gun possession.

Last month it was reported that the Queensbridge rapper is suing Universal Records over unpaid royalties. We spoke to Prodigy about the lawsuit and he revealed that Universal owes him close two seven figures.

"Basically, you got these companies, these accountants, these lawyers you always gotta keep tabs on, you know what I mean," he said. "And like that old Biggie line, “Got lawyers, watching lawyers,” so I won’t go broke, you know what I’m saying? It’s just something that we do in this business. You gotta audit sometimes. You gotta audit big companies. You gotta audit accountants. It’s just a thing you have to do and you kind of foolish if you don’t do it, so basically it was that time of the season. We had our lawyers just checking on things and we found out that Universal was doing some things that they weren’t supposed to be doing and we found a whole lot of money. It’s well into the seven figures. I don’t know where they got that number that’s going around."

Mobb Deep dropped a new six-track EP earlier this year. With Havoc and Yung Fokus handling most of the production work, the EP is the usual gritty bars over looped up drums we’ve come to know and love from Prodigy and Havoc. Stream Survival of the Fittest here.
