The big wigs in Goodwill's Illinois division have advised their employees against looking like one of Chicago's chosen sons. "Do you suffer from Resting Kanye Face?" a recent newsletter asks, depicting the rapper with the same expression for happy, sad, concerned, scared and excited. TMZ has gotten hold of the pamphlet which follows up the question by saying, "Those who do, may not be seen by others as 'approachable.'"

In retail, as with any service-based job, a friendly approachable appearance is key in converting transactions and promoting good customer service. For Kanye, the stone cold facade has become trademark, better to ward off infringing paparazzi with.

Earlier this year, Kanye explained the icy look, saying, “Back when I was working on Yeezus, I saw this book from the 1800s and it was velvet-covered with brass and everything. I looked at all these people’s photos and they look so real and their outfits were incredible and they weren’t smiling and people, you know the paparazzi, always come up to me, ‘Why you not smiling?’ and I think, not smiling makes me smile…When you see paintings in an old castle, people are not smiling cause it just wouldn’t look as cool.”

There is a bit of irony in the newsletter use of Kanye's image, as the rapper has recently broken into high fashion, focusing on creative expression through high priced goods, while Goodwill resells used garments at a basement-level price point. West does have plenty of reason to smile though, with the birth of his second child and first son, Saint West.
