2016 presidential candidate Ben Carson shared an interesting new political ad on the radio yesterday (Nov. 5) where he tried his hands in rapping in an attempt to connect with a younger, urban crowd. Talib Kweli recently shared his thoughts on the whacky rap, saying it didn't have any substance. While speaking with the Washington Postthe legendary MC said, "There were no lyrics. Just random statements. 'Carson' doesn't even really rhyme with 'awesome.'"

When asked if he believed Carson's advertisement to be an affective way of reaching the targeted audience, the Black Star rapper answered in the negative. "The most effective way for Ben Carson to reach out to young black voters is to actually care about other black people, which Ben Carson has proven to be incapable of," said Kweli. "When you say things like 'Obamacare is the worst thing that's happened to America since slavery' and describe the youth-driven Black Lives Matter as 'sickening' and accuse them of 'bullying' people, who cares about your rap ad?" he went on to ask. According to the "Definition" rapper, even if the radio ad was good, "no one would care." In his opinion, the better, more affective option would have been to "remove the vague nonsensical quotes they chose from Dr. Carson and replace them with quotes that more accurately reflect what he believes."

The $150,000 campaign will run on radio stations across the nation, particularly Atlanta, Detroit, Houston and a number of other Southern cities for the next two weeks. The idea is to attract at least 20 percent of the Black vote. Take a listen to the ad again below and decide for yourself if Carson is on to something.
