Earlier this week, Metro Boomin tweeted about the rash of rappers who have followed Future's blueprint of rapid-fire releases. His words set of a firestorm of insults and veiled shots that have apparently created a rift in Atlanta and driven a wedge between its two most visible and most prolific rising stars. Young Thug, who has dropped both installments of his Slime Season mixtape series since mid-September--not to mention this April's Barter 6--seems to have taken the comments personally. Thug directed some of his irritation toward Future, with whom he has previously collaborated. As it escalated, the two rappers traded veiled comments, while Metro stayed above the fray. That changed this afternoon (Nov. 11) when the producer tweeted the following:

During yesterday's back-and-forth, Thug retweeted another Twitter user who wrote, "RIP metro thuggin." Metro Thuggin was the name of the duo that Thug and Metro Boomin formed, and for which they had long been teasing a full-length record. Their first official release was "The Blanguage," which repurposed "The Language" from Drake's 2013 album Nothing Was the Same. The two linked up for a few other scattershot singles as well as several songs on Thug's mixtapes; some have been collected in unofficial mixtapes. This week alone, Metro has furnished beats for Chicago up-and-comers G Herbo and Lil Bibby--the latter song featured a turn by Future himself.
