A Tribe Called Quest Reunite on ‘The Tonight Show’
Jimmy Fallon and The Tonight Show staff had an extra special trick up their sleeves last last week. Known for creating viral content, appealing to the shareable nature of social media, Fallon has pulled out stop after stop during his run in the Tonight Show seat, with perhaps the biggest one coming late Friday night.
A giddy Fallon introduced A Tribe Called Quest from behind his desk, noting that the group is reuniting to perform for the first time in 15 years. Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi White were joined by The Roots to perform their hit "Can I Kick It?" in celebration of the rerelease of their debut album, People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm which is celebrating its 25 year anniversary. The reissue feature three new remixes by CeeLo, J. Cole and Pharrell.
"Oh my god" Fallon repeated after the performance, which was consistently high energy, with Q-Tip incorporating the on-their-feet audience. The 25 Year Anniversary Edition of People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm is available in stores and online. ATCQ sat down with NPR recently for a really interesting interview.
