Salman Rushdie, the acclaimed author of Midnight's Children and The Satanic Verses, is currently on a press run promoting his 10th novel, Two Years Eight Months and Twenty-Eight Nights. As part of the effort, he stopped by the CBC for an interview. After speaking about his illustrious career, the broadcast outlet handed Rushdie some of Canada's most famous written words. Of course, we're talking about Drake: In the video above, Rushdie reads and comments on excerpts from the Drake songs "6 God," "Know Yourself," "Forever," "What's My Name" and "6 p.m. in New York." For the Rihanna collaboration, Rushdie praised Aubrey's Marilyn Monroe reference ("Only thing we have on is the radio"); on "6 p.m.," he empathizes with the rapper's trouble with haters.

"I like the half-rhyme," the novelist said of Drake's "Last name ever, first name greatest/Like a sprained ankle, boy, I ain't nothing to play with" opening bars from 2009's "Forever." (That song also featured verses from Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Eminem, perhaps the four biggest rappers in the world at that time.) If you didn't think 2015 had anything to offer you, there is now, mercifully, footage of a 68-year-old Rushdie saying, "You was poppin' back when Usher wore a U chain." Drake's fourth studio album, Views From the 6, is expected imminently; some lyrics on his Future collaboration, What a Time To Be Alive, hint at a possible Halloween release. The star has said the album is heavily influenced by experiences in his hometown of Toronto.
