Ice GrillLet's see who cracks first...

It would be too obvious to call Beyonce and Nicki Minaj two of the era's best performers. Yet here they are in all their black-and-white glory, trying and failing to have a successful staring contest. The two superstars were caught on tape as part of a series of videos for Tidal. For the clip in question--presumably taken during rehearsals for the pair's joint performance at the streaming service's concert in Brooklyn--the two challenge one another to an "ice grill contest." Neither holds her composure particularly well, but it would be fair to say Minaj comes out on top.

Beyoncé also shared a short video where she sings Prince's "Darling Nikki," with the lyrics changed to be about Nicki Minaj. "I met a girl named Nicki/I guess you can say she was the rap queen," her version begins. Watch it below.

Though the two had starkly different paths to fame, they're both near the top of the music world and have collaborated a handful of times in the past two years. What's more: each has swooped in at the last minute to throw a wrench in year-end critics' lists with blockbusters the last two Decembers. In 2013, it came courtesy of Beyonce, whose self-titled album was made available on iTunes with zero advance warning. That record, which also came complete with a video for each song, resulted in a drastic shift in record-release tactics. At the tail end of 2014, Nicki dropped her long-awaited Pinkprint, furthering her claim for the New York City throne.
