Halloween is supposed to be a fun time for kids to dress up and candy. You're eight years old: you dress up as a ghost, you walk door to door, you lurch out of the way of skeletons, you eat too much. Of course, Halloween and/or its adjacent weekend is a major moment on the college party calendar; even childless adults feel the need to get in on the excitement. And somehow, every year, those older demographic groups manage to ruin it for everyone. A quick trip through your Facebook feed alone will reveal poor choices ranging from oblivious cultural appropriation to full-on, openly malicious racism. To wit: Over the weekend, pictures of an Alabama man wearing Blackface as part of a Kanye West Halloween costume surfaced on Reddit.

The trick-or-treater in question, Heath Morrow, is an employee of the Decatur City school district in Alabama. According to Raw Story, the picture was first posted by Morrow's wife, Shannon, who can be seen in a less-than-convincing Kim Kardashian costume. Along with the makeup, Heath is wearing a blazer, a white t-shirt, a red New Era hat and matching shutter sunglasses. (The sign he's holding says "Kanye for Prez 2020," but the outfit says "2007," loudly.) As Raw Story points out, the Morrows are from the same town where the 2014 appointment of a Black fire chief caused a storm of criticism from residents.
