At the top of the year, Missy Elliott revitalized her career with less than ten minutes on stage. Her appearance with Katy Perry at the Super Bowl halftime show shot her back onto the pop charts, reminding fans--including some who are too young for her initial run--how ahead of her time Missy always was. And based on the list of producers and collaborators who have lined up to work with her during her presumed comeback, artists and industry executives are bullish on the innovative MC, too. But one person isn't so happy: According to TMZ, a Brazilian concert promoter is suing Elliott for a failure to promote two shows that caused each of them to be cancelled.

Jean Faustin claims that he booked Missy to play two concerts in Rio and Porto Alegre in late November, 2012. To secure her, Faustin says he ponied up a $75,000 advance. However, when it came time to appear on Brazilian national TV--something the promoter says was written into the terms of the deal--Elliott was allegedly a no-show. According to the suit, the lack of media presence led to flagging ticket sales, which in turn forced Faustin to cancel both planned concerts. He's seeking to be reimbursed the $75,000, plus interest. At press time, neither Missy nor her camp had offered a statement of any sort. Stay tuned to XXL for more details on the case as they become available.
