Today, Jan. 13, is the birthday of Memphis rapper and Three 6 Mafia member DJ Paul.

Paul Beauregard started off his career in entertainment as a DJ (hence the stage name). DJ Paul first linked up with Juicy J and his half-brother, Lord Infamous to form Three 6 Mafia. The group underwent many different cast and name changes during the '90s and steadily built their buzz in the Southern gangsta rap scene.

Three 6 got their first taste of mainstream success when their fourth album, When The Smoke Clears: Sixty 6, Sixty 1 (2000), partially produced by DJ Paul, debuted at number six on the Billboard 200 and went platinum. In 2005, the guys hit it big again with their hit single "Stay Fly" off their eighth album, Most Known Unknown. The following year, the trio made music history twice in one night by becoming the first hip hop artists to perform at the Academy Awards and becoming the first hip-hop group to win an Academy Award.

DJ Paul has stayed active in the hip-hop world, working as a DJ, helping to form the Three 6 Mafia aftermath crew, Da Mafia 6, made of Paul, Lord Infamous,Crunchy Black, Koopsta Knicca and Gangsta Boo, and dropping solo studio albums, the most recent of which is 2015's Master of Evil.

Happy Birthday, DJ Paul!
