Drake's attempts to earn a No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 continues. While many people thought "Hotline Bling" would end the Toronto rapper's drought, The Weeknd's "The Hills" stood atop the charts for a sixth straight week and prevented Drake from earning the first No. 1 charting song in his career. "Hotline Bling" remained at No. 2 for the third straight week.

After the countless memes the recently released music video for "Hotline Bling" produced, it seemed inevitable that the buzz surrounding the single would help Drake finally earn his first No. 1 song on the Hot 100. One thing that hurt Drake's ability to claim the top spot was the fact that Apple Music does not report its streams to Nielsen Soundscan at this time. Drake's deal with Apple resulted in him releasing the video for "Hotline Bling" via Apple Music as opposed to a service like VEVO, which does report its streaming numbers to Nielsen. However, the "Hotline Bling" video is now on VEVO.

With the release of Adele's new single "Hello" this week, Drake's chances of reaching No. 1 on the Hot 100 with "Hotline Bling" may have slipped away. Although he's accomplish a lot in his career, Drake admitted on an Instagram post last week that seeing one of his songs at the top the Billboard chart is the honor he desires most. "No accolades really matter to me other than the fact that I have never had a Billboard number one," he said. "If I get my first number one during the month of October, it will be the biggest moment of my career to date."
