RZA will be the director for the forthcoming action thriller Breakout. Variety repots that the Wu-Tang Clan rapper/producer has closed a deal with Amasia Entertainment, with filming set to begin at the top of 2016. "The multi-talented RZA has mastered the art of music, acting and filmmaking," said the company's principals Bradley Gallo and Michael Helfant. "We are ecstatic to have him behind the camera on our next project as he brings a fresh and innovative take to this international action thriller from Rich D’Ovidio.

The script for the upcoming film was written by D'Ovidio. Breakout's plot is about a photographer falsely arrested for drug trafficking in Bangladesh. The photog's rich father than plans a way to break his son out of prison. The film is RZA's third project behind the lens, preceded by 2011's The Man with the Iron Fists and the upcoming Coco, which stars Common, Jill Scott and Azealia Banks and debuts March 2016. RZA also stars in Amasia's Mr.Right as a marksman opposite Sam Rockwell and Anna Kendrick. Mr. Right will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sept. 19 as the closing night film. RZA also co-wrote and starred in The Man With the Iron Fists 2, but gave up the directing duties for this movie.

The legendary producer is also co-starring in the upcoming thriller AWOL-72, which releases on Sept. 25. It stars Luke Gross as an AWOL military officer who has been accused of selling secrets to ex-KGB during the cold war.
