Today, Sept. 8, is the birthday of Houston rapper Slim Thug. Thug turns 38 years old today.

After beginning his career with Swishahouse Records in 1998, Thug ventured out with his own label, Boss Hogg Outlawz. Slim appeared on Mike Jones' first sngle "Still Tippin" off his debut album in 2004, bringing his signature Southern drawl and style to the masses. Slim then dropped his long awaited debut album, Already Platinum, in July of 2005. The project premiered at number two on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Over the years, Slim has worked with everyone from Gwen Stefani and Pimp C to Rick Ross and fellow Texan Beyonce. Slim dropped his latest album Hogg Life, Vol. 4: American King in August of this year.

Aside from music, Thug has made it a point to be more socially active in the last few years. In the wake of the ongoing Black Lives Matter Movement, Slimg Thug and a handful of other Houston area rappers made it a point to put their money where their mouth was. The group made headlines when they decided to transfer their money to Black-owned banks in Texas. Thug spoke with XXL recent about why supporting Black-owned businesses is important.

"After we left the City Hall, we went to Unity Bank, the black-owned bank in Houston, and we all opened up accounts over there. We were being proactive about that also, and just letting people know we’re standing together and we really just want to make a change."

Slim Thug and Z-Ro have a collaborative album, The King & The Boss, in the works and have already dropped the first single off the project, "Love My Swag.”

Happy Birthday, Slim Thug!
