Back before the recession, Jay Z was recording The Blueprint 3 and getting ready to headline Glastonbury when Noel Gallagher raised hell about someone who doesn't play guitar holding down the spot. Of course, Jay responded on "Jockin' Jay-Z" and with the unforgettable opening of his set, and that was that. At least until this year. In February, Kanye--who produced "Jockin' Jay-Z"--drew the ire of the other Gallagher brother, Liam, with his "All Day" performance at the Brit Awards. Vic Mensa, who had just been announced as a guest on West's "Wolves," lashed out on Twitter. Now, speaking to The Guardian, the recent Roc Nation signee addresses the issue in greater depth:

“I had a little thing where I said: ‘Fuck one of the Gallagher brothers’ on Twitter, and I was getting posted on blogs for ‘starting a beef’ or something. I mean, whatever. Those guys are legends, but also dickheads. Ultimate dickheads. I saw they were mad Kanye played Glastonbury. They were mad when Jay Z played too. Feels very racist to me. They’re gonna say: ‘No it’s not about race, it’s about guitar music, it’s about rock’n’roll’, but I mean like, how many people do you feel are carrying the spirit of rock’n’roll in 2015? Would you not say that Yeezus, and a song like "Black Skinhead," is carrying the spirit of rock’n’roll? I can’t understand how that’s not fucking rock’n’roll.”

When West was announced as this year's Glastonbury headliner, he was almost immediately the subject of petitions and protests, many of which have obvious, undeniable racial undertones. Festival organizers even received death threats for daring to book a Black rapper for the traditionally rock-leaning festival. During his performance, a fan was allowed to rush the stage and stand near West for several seconds before security handled the situation.
