Kendrick Lamar to be First Musical Guest on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’

Stephen Colbert is getting ready to take over The Late Show from David Letterman this fall and serving as his first musical guest will be To Pimp a Butterfly rapper Kendrick Lamar.

During a recent speech for the Television Critics Association, Colbert said that since K. Dot helped close out The Colbert Report last year, it was only appropriate to have him be his first guest on the next show. During The Colbert Report's closing show, Kendrick performed his officially unreleased track, "Untitled," which his TPAB collaborator Terrace Martin later told NPR was written the night before. The first episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs on Sep. 8. Check out a recap of Lamar's "Untitled" performance above.

In other recent K. Dot-related news, Miley Cyrus said in a recent cover story for Marie Claire magazine that she was not sipping the Kendrick kool-aid. The country/pop singer criticized Kendrick and Taylor Swift for their use of guns in Swift's "Bad Blood" video, saying the two aren't setting a good example. Cyrus also commented on the existence of sexism in the music industry, citing Lamar to make her point. “There is so much sexism, ageism, you name it. Kendrick Lamar sings about LSD and he’s cool. I do it and I’m a druggie whore.” K. Dot hasn't publicly responded as yet.
