Jay Electronica Throws Shots at Drake and J. Cole

Fans of Jay Electronica--and if you haven't met fans of Jay Electronica, they're a rabid bunch--have been waiting with bated breath for Act II: Patents of Nobility (The Turn) for over half a decade now. The album, promised by the enigmatic New Orleans native and by its executive producer, Just Blaze, has been teased and hinted at with a series of half-finished demos and cryptic promises from none other than Jay Z; more recently, songs that appeared on an apparent tracklist have started to leak. Still, there's been little in the way of concrete evidence that Jay Elec Hanukkah exists within and engages with the current hip-hop landscape. Until now. Last week, at a show in London, the "Exhibit C" savant had some barbs for two of rap's biggest stars. First, there was a playful shot at Drake: "You might be the 6 God, but I am the God," Jay cracked, before launching into the Jay Z-featuring "Dinner at Tiffany's (The Shiny Suit Theory)." Then, after a cover of Skepta's "Shutdown," Jay said, "I'm sorry, but J. Cole ain't got bars like this. I'm sorry, whoever your favorite rapper is, they all know that I'm the God."

Elec and Cole have previously worked together, appearing alongside one another on "Just Begun" from Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek's second Reflection Eternal album. Since his disappearance from the American pop culture world, Jay, who has a child with Erykah Badu, has taken up with Kate Rothschild, heiress to one of human history's biggest banking fortunes.
