Jamie xx is no stranger to the hip-hop world, but when it came time to pick a single for his solo album, In Colour, he doubled down on his relationship to rap. The Young Thug-led "I Know There's Gonna Be (Good Times)" is undoubtedly one of the defining songs of this summer, complete with vocals from Popcaan and Jamie's own expert sample flip. On Sunday night (Aug. 9), during the English producer's Boiler Room set in New York City, Thug came out to perform "Good Times," persevering through mic issues and a distinct lack of strollers. He better get used to playing the song live, as he let slip in a Dazed Digital profile that a solo version of the cut might be a single from his forthcoming Hy!£UN35. (This is the same set of interviews in which Thug says, "Wayne and Drake, it takes them so long to do a song. I understand why, because they want it to be perfect. But I think I can do a perfect song in ten minutes.) The whole set can be streamed at Boiler Room's website.

With the album presumably on the way this fall, Thug looks to have one of the better years a rap artist has had this decade. This spring's Barter 6 was met with rave reviews, despite its conscious move away from hits toward more personal fare. Last month, 300 Entertainment dropped "Pacifier," a Mike WiLL Made It-produced song that the label says will serve as a single.
