GZA Is Working With Electronic Musician Vangelis

GZA is working on his first album in seven years, so it has to be right. And if that means cancelling part of his tour in order to work with a legend in the production game, so be it. The Wu-Tang clansman recently took to his Facebook page to announce he was cancelling some upcoming dates on his European tour to work with legendary electronic musician Vangelis. "Due to circumstances beyond our control and a narrow window to finish Dark Matter, with a very rare collaborator, I regret to inform my fans that I must cancel these upcoming European dates. I'll be back next Spring with brand new material," he wrote, along with a picture of him and the white-haired keyboard god.

Vangelis is the Oscar-winning producer behind the iconic scores for films like Chariots of Fire, Blade Runner and Carl Sagan's Cosmos. He has never in his career collaborated with an MC before now. This should make for a uniquely dope collaboration.

Dark Matter is the follow up to 2008's Pro Tools and is an album that has been almost a decade in the making. The LP will mark the fourth Wu Tang member to drop an album this year following Raekwon's Fly International Luxurious Art, Ghostface Killah's Twelve Reasons to Die II and Method Man's The Meth Lab.

One thing's for sure, GZA's album will surely have some substance. The rapper was very vocal recently about the need to uphold artistry in hip-hop in a recent open letter typing, “They put music out about that and they’re not really about that life. We don’t have songs like ‘Self Destruction‘ or ‘We’re All In The Same Gang‘ anymore. Rappers aren’t grabbing you anymore, it’s not pulling me in. What can I get from talking about my car? It’s irrelevant. It’s not about the art form anymore.”

Dark Matter is slated for a fall release.
