Eminem's past struggles with prescription pills are well documented, even by Em himself whose 2009 album was called Relapse followed by the LP Recovery in 2010. The rap god seems to have gotten himself together in recent years, but there was a time when things were taking a serious turn for the worst. Shady recently sat down with Men's Journal for an interview that will appear in their September issue and recounted the times when he was at his in really bad shape.

"In 2009, I overdosed on pills, and I went into the hospital," he told the magazine. "I was close to 230 pounds. I'm not sure how I got so big, but I have ideas. The coating on the Vicodin and the Valium I'd been taking for years leaves a hole in your stomach, so to avoid a stomachache, I was constantly eating—and eating badly."

Luckily for Em, his story didn't have a tragic ending there, and the Detroit MC was able to get back on the right track with a regimen of extreme cardio. "Seventeen miles a day on a treadmill," he added. "I would get up in the morning, and before I went to the studio, I would run eight and a half miles in about an hour. Then I'd come home and run another eight and a half. I started getting OCD about the calories, making sure I burned 2,000 every day. In the end I got down to about 149 pounds."

Em has kept up his physical activity to this day in hopes of never ballooning up to his former size. He has apparently also been training with Jet Li.
