Dr. Dre and Ice Cube Demand to be Left Out of Suge Knight’s Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Dr. Dre and Ice Cube have filed a motion to remove their names as defendants in Suge Knight's wrongful death lawsuit. Suge Knight was charged with murder and attempted murder for running over and killing Terry Carter and seriously injuring Cle "Bone" Sloan earlier this year. Carter's widow Lilian filed the wrongful death lawsuit in June, claiming that Suge and the N.W.A rappers should be held responsible for the incident that led to Carter's death. The Hollywood Reporter reports that the two hip-hop stars claim that they "did not create undue risks for anyone, let alone Carter."

The lawsuit also targets Pretty Bird Pictures, Tam’s Burger—the place where the accident happened— and Universal Pictures, the studio behind N.W.A's biopic Straight Outta Compton. The complaint reads: “This lawsuit concerns the tragic tale of how reckless corporate greed, disguised as the quest for authenticity, [led] to a foreseeable altercation that resulted in the death of a successful businessman.”  The Carter family believe Universal and Pretty Bird Pictures allowed Sloan to hire known gang members in the area for security for Straight Outta Compton‘s film shoots. When Knight showed up on set, Sloan was the alleged instigator that directed the hip-hop mogul to leave, which led to the incident.

Dre and Suge Knight have been rivals for years since the super producer left Death Row Records and put a restraining order on Knight. The Straight Outta Compton stars said in there motion their only role was telling Sloan to ask Knight to leave. "These allegations plainly demonstrate that allowing Suge to remain at the base camp posed a serious risk that Suge could have injured someone at the camp – including Dr. Dre, Bone or one of the numerous cast and crew working on the film," the rappers' paperwork said. "Certainly, the risk that Suge might leave the base camp and proceed to his fatal confrontation with Carter was no more foreseeable than the possibility that Suge would injure or kill someone else if he had been permitted to stay."

Back in January, Carter was killed after he was ran over by Knight. Suge Knight was later charged after the January incident. In May, Suge's lawyers moved to have his murder charges dropped. Knight since then hired Thomas Mesereau, the attorney who successfully defended Michael Jackson on child molestation charges, to represent him.
