Prior to the release of his critically and popularly acclaimed third album, Dirty Sprite 2, Future made headlines for his complaints about Ciara's parenting practices. The singer, with whom he has a child, had been pictured with her new boyfriend, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, pushing a stroller and genuinely doing what parents might do. “Of course I wouldn’t want somebody pushing my son,” the Atlanta rapper said at the time. “That’s the number one rule. If I was a kid, and my mama had a dude pushing me, I would’ve jumped out the stroller and slapped the shit out of him.” Now, in an interview with CBS In the Morning, Ciara responds. "I actually did reach out to [Future]," she says, "for him and Russell to speak, and he didn’t want to talk to me.  We didn’t get to talk, so that was that. I don’t know what more they would expect for me to do than just to live my life." She added, "my son is the most important."

Beyond the broken communication Ciara said that she feels the reaction to Wilson's involvement in her son's life betrays our deeply held double standards for women; she noted that for long stretches of her relationship with Future, she was taking care of his children. Additionally, she commented on the widely reported news that she and Wilson, both professed Christians, are remaining celibate for the time being. "It’s a great challenge," she admits, "but it’s awesome because we get to really challenge ourselves, get to know each other and really build a foundation.
