Billboard polled anonymous high-ranking music industry executives about the artists they feel should have their own label and what their least favorite genre of music is. The 50-plus execs polled were asked "What genre of music do you despise the most?" and rap music came in as the least liked ahead of EDM and Pop. Jimmy Iovine was voted the most talented executive in the music industry and over half of the execs said they would leave their current job for a similar-paying position at Apple or Spotify.

The most lopsided response came when asked "How long do you give Tidal?" Seventy-one percent of the people polled said they think the streaming service will last one year or less. In late July, rumors started to spread that Jay Z may be trying to leave Tidal. HitsDailyDouble reported that Jay has been losing millions of dollars because funding he was expecting never came through. Despite the company's murky future, Madonna, who co-owns Tidal with Hov and Beyonce, has publicly supported Tidal. "It's just the beginning, so we're working out a lot of the kinks and hopefully we're going to build something unique and amazing that's going to attract a lot of people," she said in a recent interview. "It's important that people understand we didn't create Tidal, we didn't put this together, we didn't all join forces because we're broke and we want more money. The idea is we want to support other artists and we want people to understand this is our heart, this is our work and we want people to recognize that and we want other artists to have a chance."
