Supa Dupa Fly.

Today, July 1, is the birthday of pioneering female MC Missy Elliott, who now turns 47. Missy Misdemeanor Elliott opened the doors for countless female artists in the hip hop community. By surpassing expectations and being showered with accolades like 5 Grammys and selling over 30 million records, Missy has solidified herself as an integral figure in hip-hop history. Her fearlessness in stepping outside of the box enabled her to be one of the most creative artists in the game. Records like "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)", "Get Ur Freak On" and "Hot Boyz" conveyed her both her lyricism and her hit-making abilities. With 5 platinum albums, and one gold, it's easy to see why Missy was able to slay the competition.

The last time we saw Missy perform was during the 2015 Superbowl as a guest appearance to Katy Perry where she proved at 44 years old, she could still keep up with her energetic hits. Misdemeanor has also been spotted in the studio with Pharrell, Bruno Mars and A$AP Ferg working on new music. In 2016, she dropped the single "WTF (Where They From)" featuring Pharrell and also popped up on Ferg's sophomore album. Two years ago, Missy was honored at VH1's 2016 Hip Hop Honors or her lifelong achievements in the rap game. A year later, in 2017, she performed her hit single, "She's a Bitch" at VH1's 2017 Hip-Hop Honors.

In 2018, Missy's continued to give the music world her best while making her presence known other places, too. Ahead of the 2018 Super Bowl, the rap legend popped up in a Mountain Dew and Doritos commercial that saw herself and Busta Rhymes teach actors Morgan Freeman and Peter Dinklage how to deliver tongue-twisting flows. A short while later, Missy and Busta teamed up once again to appear on Kelly Rowland's then-new single, "Get It."

Happy Birthday, Missy!
