Turk Settles With Cash Money Out of Court

Turk has reportedly settled his lawsuit against Cash Money and Money Mack Music for unpaid royalties after settling out of court. According to The Advocate, Turk originally sued the labels for $1.3 million in Feb. and the suit was dismissed at the rapper's request on June 30 with both sides paying their own legal costs and fees. It has not been disclosed how much Turk walked away with following the out of court settlement.

The original lawsuit claimed that he had not been paid for upwards of 80 songs that he had a part in recording either as a solo artist or as a member of the Hot Boys. Turk claimed neither Cash Money or Money Mack Music registered 34 songs he either wrote or co-wrote with the United States Copyright Office which prevented him from receiving any royalty payments. "The reason I'm suing now is because I realized that me being loyal has gotten me nowhere in this business," the rapper told XXL in Feb. "It's my attorney's decision that it's in my best interest to sue after several attempts to settle this matter privately. Now we wait for the next chapter wodie."

Before serving most of a 10-year bid stemming from the 2004 shooting of a Memphis police officer, Turk enjoyed success as part of the Hot Boys. He appeared on the group's albums, Get It How U Live!, Guerrilla Warfare and Let Em Burn. He also released a solo album, 2001's Young & Thuggin', which, according to the lawsuit, Turk never say any royalties from despite the project being certified Gold by the RIAA. Turk has seen a bit of a resurgence over the past year, appearing on songs with his OG Hot Boy comrades Lil Wayne and Juvenile.
