Miguel and Frank Ocean have been, for better or worse, inextricably tied to one another since at least the 2013 Grammy Awards. That was the night that Ocean's critically adored Channel Orange took home the statue for Best R&B Album over Miguel's Kaleidoscope Dream, an equally adored project that may have suffered from its slightly smaller platform. Now, with his Wildheart album just out--and with the Odd Future crooner reportedly gearing up for his next release as well--Miguel has taken to the media with some shots for his creative rival. In an interview with The Sunday Times, Miguel makes it apparent that their relationship has remained icy. "I wouldn’t say we were friends," he says, adding, "To be completely honest--and no disrespect to anyone--I genuinely believe that I make better music, all the way around."

Miguel later called the constant comparisons between the pair (and to Canadian singer The Weeknd) "interesting," with the telling qualifier, "We’ll see who’s in it for the long haul." Later on Miguel took to Twitter and said that he is "competitive" and that there is no need to "compare apples and oranges":
