It wouldn't be a stretch to say that Kid Cudi's career has followed an unconventional path. The crooner from Cleveland shot to fame in 2008 with a mixtape, A Kid Named Cudi, and "Day N Nite," his massively successful single. That was parlayed into a deal with Kanye West and G.O.O.D. Music; Cudi would go on to contribute vocals and creative direction to 808s & Heartbreak, West's fourth studio album, a bloodletting after the star lost his mother in a botched cosmetic operation and saw his engagement dissolve. That album--and Cudi's own sound--would become the blueprint for much commercial rap at the turn of the decade and into the current one. As for his solo music, however, he's decided to take a different direction. Cudi took to his Twitter account over the holiday weekend to spill some details about his new album, Speedin' Bullet to Heaven.

According to the man himself, the album will be completely devoid of the electronic sound for which he's become known; instead, the backing tracks will be composed of guitar and bass lines that Cudi composed and played himself. Additionally, the album--which he says is approximately 98% done--is his "purest" work to date. "I've ripped my heart out and carved it into tiny pieces of musical madness," he writes, I dont care who you listen to. Im the best. Happy 4th, I love you all, peace and love. Thank you for your attention." The first single is expected out later this month.
