With his debut LP, Summertime '06, due out at the end of this month on Def Jam, Vince Staples stopped by the Hot 97 studios to chat with Ebro and Rosenberg. He brought with him Tyler, the Creator (since he first garnered attention with Shyne Coldchain, Vol. 1, Vince has enjoyed a symbiotic relationship with Odd Future and their fanbase). Of course, Rosenberg urged the two to rap; though Vince lamented that he had just finished writing and recording a double album, each MC hopped behind the mic. Over Outkast's "ATLiens" beat, the rising Long Beach star rattles off a series of grim observations: "Ain't no mirrors on the wall, just the tags from all the hoods." Before tackling Lil Kim's "No Time," Tyler, whose Cherry Bomb dropped this April, warns everyone in the room that his portion might go off the rails ("I don't be having verses") before launching into a verse that suggests he and Vince are engaging in some extra-curricular affairs. Vince denies this, loudly and immediately.

That's not all. Vince, who just followed up his lead single "Senorita" with the Desi Mo-featuring "Get Paid," had a lot to say--about Ray J. "Everything that we love is directly related to Ray J," he deadpans, with Tyler hysterical in the background. Vince rattles off a series of incidents--run-ins with Floyd Mayweather, The Game breaking through, Fabolous' wardrobe changing--involving Ray J, whom Staples asserts is "top five hip-hop West coast of all time." Watch that video below, and remember that "Ray J has had a hand in everything that's occurred in Black culture."
