Pumpkinhead, an underground rapper and battle veteran, has died at 39. According to Billboard, a cause of death for the rapper, who was born Robert Diaz, was not yet known. With four solo albums under his belt (and one, 2005's Orange Moon Over Brooklyn, which received a re-release on Rawkus), in 2009 Diaz changed his stage name to PH. He was beloved by many in New York and throughout rap's independent ranks, having collaborated with such venerable artists as Talib Kweli, Immortal Technique, Wordsworth, Del the Funky Homosapien, Murs, Jean Grae, Royce da 5'9" and more. Diaz leaves behind a wife and two sons. Just this week, he and his wife announced that they were expecting a new baby girl.
