Kanye West Partially Blames His Move to L.A. for His Mother’s Death

Kanye West still understandably has a heavy heart over the death of his mother Dr. Donda West who died in 2007 of heart disease while suffering "multiple post-operative factors" following plastic surgery. In a recent interview with Q, 'Ye admitted that her death still eats at him, partially because he feels he is somewhat to blame for her passing. "If I had never moved to L.A. she'd be alive," he reportedly told Q. He refused to expound on his logic saying, "I don't want to go far into it because it will bring me to tears."

West has continued to keep his mother's name and legacy alive since her tragic passing. He created the Chicago based arts institution, Donda's House. He also started a creative company called, DONDA which has helped create content for artists from 2 Chainz to Lil Wayne.

Earlier this year, West released the song, "Only One" which is a message to Kanye from the perspective of his late mother, who was a professor of English at Clark Atlanta University, and the Chair of the English Department at Chicago State University before retiring to serve as his manager. According to Paul McCartney who is featured on the song, the heartfelt Yeezy track came about shortly after a conversation the two had about a song Paul wrote shortly after the death of his mother.

West penned the song "Hey Mama" which is dedicated to his mother in 2000 and later appeared on the album Late Registration. He has since performed the song several times live in her honor.
