Last night (April 30), Yelawolf hit the stage at Jimmy Kimmel Live! to perform "American You," a country-pop-rock-rap number from his sophomore album, the just-released Love Story. With a welcome assist from Travis Barker on the drums, the Alabama rapper ran through the song with ease, illustrating his transformation from tongue-twisting MC to populist balladeer. It was Yelawolf's first time performing on Kimmel's show, and the quick set was loose, the vocals true to their studio-mastered counterparts. "American You" has previously received the video treatment, with Yela playing a mechanic and taking his band to the middle of a deserted field in the urban areas around which he grew up.

Love Story is Yelawolf's first official full-length since his 2011 debut, Radioactive. Each album was released through Shady Records; Eminem himself makes the only high-profile guest appearance on the new effort. The two collaborated on "Best Friend," an impassioned song that speaks to each rapper's relationship with a higher power. Yelawolf first garnered national attention around the turn of the last decade--his 2010 mixtape, Trunk Muzik, earned him a spot on the radar of hip-hop fans, tastemakers and executives alike. That year he would sign to Shady and begin work on RadioactiveTrunk Muzik was also reissued with new songs and high-profile guests as Trunk Muzik 0-60.
