1989: On May 23, 1989, New Jersey MC Chill Rob G dropped his debut album, Ride the Rhythm, under Wild Pitch and EMI Records.

As an original member of Jersey's Flavor Unit, Rob G signed to Wild Pitch Records in 1987 and made his solo debut with Ride the Rhythm. An all-encompassing 12-track effort, Ride the Rhythm featured heavy production from Flavor Unit's DJ Mark the 45 King and showcased Rob G's funky, versatile flow. The album spawned four standout out singles, "Let Me Show You", "Court Is Now in Session", "Let the Words Flow", and "The Power." "Let the Words Flow" was a breakthrough for its unique beat and "The Power" is still considered a both a hip-hop and house music classic featured in TV and film soundtracks periodically. The project definitely still slaps.

The album peaked at number 60 on Billboard's 1990 Top Rap/Hip-Hop Albums list and in 1998, the LP made the list of The Source's 100 Best Rap Albums.
