While Chicago hip-hop continues to sprawl and splinter out of control, giving us soulful (Tree), cerebral (Vic Mensa) and everything in between (Lucki Eck$, Mick Jenkins), King Louie is deciding to double down. The third installment of the veteran's Drilluminati mixtape series comes with the provocative subtitle God of Drill, which is less outlandish than it might seem to the uninitiated. Though Louie's hasn't scored a crossover hit like Chief Keef did three years ago, when drill entered the lay consciousness, the veteran has been quietly carving out his niche for years. This latest installment bucks the trend of shorter mixtape sets, instead delivering 16 tracks with minimal features. When he does reach out for assistance, Louie taps some of the most buzzed-about artists in the game, like local upstart Dreezy, one-eyed wonder Fetty Wap and OVO's PartyNextDoor.

The OVO connection has actually been the subject of much debate, as Louie was recently rumored to get a Drake-inspired tattoo inked on his neck. The Chicagoan has been evasive as to his exact relationship with the Toronto camp, but there seems to be some sort of symbiosis at play. Those unfamiliar with Louie may recognize him from "Send It Up," the penultimate song on Kanye West's divisive 2013 album Yeezus.
