Mobb Deep's classic Survival Of The Fittest came out 20 years ago but a new version of the song will be ringing out during the Western Conference Finals of the NBA Playoffs. ESPN has tabbed Prodigy and Havoc for a remix to the gutter track as an open for its popular NBA pregame show NBA Countdown. Mobb Deep will also shoot an accompanying visual for the song.

“It is absolutely incredible that, on the 20th Anniversary of the recording of Survival Of The Fittest, the meaning of the song is as relevant as ever” says Prodigy via a press release. “We would like to thank ESPN for choosing our record and for making it the anthem of one of the most important U.S. sports events of the year” adds Havoc. “We were absolutely excited to deliver a remix version of this classic and a visual to accompany the opening of NBA Countdown.”

The Western Conference Playoffs will begin either Sunday, May 17 or Tuesday, May 19 depending on how long the series between the Golden State Warriors and Memphis Grizzlies, and the Los Angeles Clippers and Houston Rockets go. Each series is a best of seven and both currently stand at 3-2 in favor of the Warriors and Clippers, respectively. NBA Countdown is hosted by Sage Steele, former NBA head coach and player Doug Collins and former NBA player and hip-hop fan Jalen Rose.
