Rumors surfaced in early April that Kanye West was being casted in Spike Lee's upcoming movie Chiraq but that talk has been put to bed. A representative for Yeezy told Pitchfork that, "Contrary to published reports, Kanye West will not be starring in Chiraq. However, there are discussions for West's possible involvement in the film's soundtrack, schedule permitting." So not all hope is lost in Ye's involvement but those hoping to catch Dr. West on the big screen are outta luck.

Chiraq is a musical-comedy about a woman who wants to end gang violence in Chicago and is based on the Greek tale "Lysistrata". Jennifer Hudson, Samuel L. Jackson and John Cusack are set to star in the film. Chiraq will be released online and in theaters via Amazon Original Movies.

The Chicago Tribune reported that Lee was in Chicago is January to conduct research with the help of Reverend Michael Pfleger. “Thanks to Director/Actor Spike Lee,” Pfleger wrote on his Facebook page. “Who spent the day at St. Sabina yesterday talking and interviewing….People who cover the violence, Principals who deal with violence in and around their schools, Brothers from the Blocks who live in it every day and Parents who have lost their children to Violence…..He spent the day from early morning till late in the night….listening and asking questions to try and get a deeper understanding of the plague of violence. Thanks Spike for caring and wanting to understand.”
