A 2013 lawsuit over the use of a sample on Kanye West's "Bound 2" has been settled. West, Roc-A-Fella Records, Universal and Dej Jam were sued in December of 2013 by Ricky Spicer, a singer from The Ponderosa Twins Plus One for using the group's song "Bound" without his authorization, reports Billboard. Spicer's suit claimed that he had not been paid for the use of the song, despite the massive success of "Bound 2" and Yeezus. Paperwork filed to New York court from earlier this month says that the suit has been discontinued. The amount Spicer was compensated for the use of the song has not been disclosed at this time. Spicer's sampled voice is heard throughout "Bound 2" and is one of the main staples of the instrumental.

In June of 2014, West was sued for $800,000 by Robert Poindexter, a member of the '70s-era band The Persuaders. Poindexter argued that 'Ye illegally sample the 1972 song "Trying Girls Out (the Composition)" for the "Girls Girls Girls (Remix)" that landed on Jay Z's The Blueprint in 2001 as a bonus track. "Kanye West has never acquired authorization from me or the copyright owners for the composition," said Poindexter via RadarOnline. "[West] wilfully infringed the composition copyright for private and financial gain by selling and distributing an untold amount of tangible and digital copies."  Poindexter had previously sued West but the case was thrown out in Jan. of 2014.
