Last month, De La Soul initiated a Kickstarter to fund their upcoming album. Having exceeded their goal of $110,000 in 24 hours (bringing in $180,974), the fund still had 30 days left to take in contributions. The campaign ended today with the group raking in a whopping $600,874 from 11,169 backers, nearly a Kickstarter record, according to the trio. Earlier, the group took to Instagram to thank fans and contributors for believing in the movement. They also said more music would be coming soon.

"Thank you so much to all of you for rewarding us with your time and help!," they captioned an old photo of the group with the words "Thank You" across it. "We have not only become the second most funded music project on Kickstarter, but we have also gained a clearer insight into how you feel about us as a group and what we do. You have helped directly play a part in giving us the much needed creative fuel by showing that we still matter to all of you! In knowing that we feel nothing less than number 1!!! Much love and this music is coming your way soon!! #thankyou #blessed #delasoul"

This will be their first LP since 2004's The Grind Date. The album will features all samples from De La's past recordings redone by live instrumentation. The LP will feature Damon Albarn, David Byrne (on a track called "Snoopies"), 2 Chainz (on "Whodini"), and Little Dragon (on "Drawn"). “Over the last three years, we’ve hired some of LA’s finest studio musicians and recorded them in free-styled, unrehearsed, jam sessions,” the group described. “They played everything from banjo to upright bass, sometimes up to a dozen musicians at once; simply allowing sounds to integrate.”

The group recently released the Nas collaboration, "God It."
