Bow Wow is the latest rapper to cut contractual ties with Cash Money Records. Shad recently announced the split via his Facebook account. The rapper have been signed to the storied Southern rap imprint since 2009 but has yet to drop an album even though he has been frequently plugging his upcoming LP Underrated for years. According to Bow, the split was amicable. “This is a peaceful situation," he said. "This is me waking up and looking myself in the mirror, analyzing myself and asking myself, ‘What do want out of your career? What do you wanna do?’ I have so much music that needs to be heard. That wants to be heard by my fans. And I feel like it’s unfair. I’ve been quiet now for four years. I didn’t wanna say nothing because I wanted to make sure the time was right. And I wanted to make sure that I said what I wanted to say, it was said correctly. With that being said I feel like I had to part ways.”

Clearly lack of support from the label to put out music is a major factor in Bow wanting to leave. This is the same gripe that has been brought up by CMR employees Lil Twist, Tyga and cash cow Lil Wayne in the recent past. “I wanna dictate when my music come out," the Ohio rapper continued. "I’m tired of going to the studio to make records and then I listen to them. ‘Cuz then they get old. Then when y’all ask for new music I don’t wanna hear it ‘cuz I’ve been listening to it for two or three months. I just can’t be held up up by nobody. It’s as simple as that. I got a daughter. I gotta family I gott provide for. Why not go back to the creators and masters who branded me? That’s Snoop Dogg and Jermaine Dupri. This is gonna make my new situation even more monumental. I wanted to be my own man. I wanted to be a boss and call my own shots.”

This is the third Cash Money artist to jump ship in less than a year. Last July, Busta Rhymes left the label after spending nearly three unproductive years with Baby and Slim. In October, British R&B singer Jay Sean parted ways with CMR after six years with the New Orleans powerhouse, dropping three albums while with the label.

But Bow Wow has something to smile about. Deadline reports that his show on CBS, CSI: Cyber, is being renewed for a second season.
