Incarcerated rapper Bobby Shmurda was recently involved in a fight in prison that included multiple people and members of the Crips and Bloods street gang. According to TMZ, a fight broke out Friday (May 15) at Otis Bantum Correctional Center with the "Hot Nigga" MC and five other inmates all throwing blows. Guards eventually quelled the melee with pepper spray. According to jail officials, the fight involved Crips and Bloods.

Shmurda is currently awaiting trial on conspiracy charges. His hearing is scheduled for June 25, along with fellow GS9 member Rowdy Rebel. The rappers, along with several other members of their crew, have been locked up since December when they were arrested in a studio raid and hit with over 100 varying charges ranging from, conspiracy, murder, assault, drugs and weapons, following a 2-year investigation by the New York Police Department.

Shmurda has proclaimed his innocence on multiple occasions. "I’m just a young, black kid coming from a nasty neighborhood. I made it out, and a lot of people don’t want to see that," he recently told New York Magazine. I’m guilty for where I live. I was never part of no gang. That’s just because of the neighborhood. You don’t even have to be in the gang to be in the gang."

Shmurda's lawyer Kenneth Montgomery is expecting an uphill battle in court. "What I would want is some reasonableness to take place and that this young man can be given a reasonable bail and get out,” Montgomery told XXL. ”But I know what we’re up against. We’re not up against reason. We’re up against the rule of law.”
