Much has been made about Jay Z's purchasing, rebranding and relaunching Tidal; even more has been made about its supposed commercial failures. Though some pieces of hard data (an artist's earnings per stream, for example) paint the company in a positive light, early PR has been difficult, marred by what some considered to be the tone-deaf, millionaire-laden rollout. The latest rumor could be another damaging blow. A scathing report by Bloomberg Business (titled "That's Business, Man: Why Jay Z's Tidal Is a Complete Disaster") alleges that if Tidal can't come up with large sums of money to pay labels in the form of an advance, some labels, like Sony, might revoke Tidal's right to stream music from their artists--including Beyoncé. Bloomberg suggests that Sony and Warner are holding out for significant advance fees (Universal has already reached an agreement with Tidal). Losing the involvement of two of the three major record labels would mean that many of the artists who have an ownership stake in Tidal might not be able to stream their own music through the service.

Beyoncé has already contributed exclusive content to Tidal, in the form of she and Nicki Minaj's "Feelin' Myself" video. It has been rumored for weeks now that Beyoncé and Jay Z might release a joint album exclusive to the service, though nothing to that effect has been substantiated. The superstar singer's most recent release was 2013's self-titled album, which was dropped without warning and with videos for each track.
