For the past seven years, the hip-hop world has been obsessed with Amber Rose, an attractive, bold spirit who many find trouble understanding. However, Amber remains unafraid at all times to give the world a peek at who she really is, whether it gets fully digested by the public or not. Despite two highly-publicized relationships, one with Kanye West and then her marriage to Wiz Khalifa, the mother of her and Wiz's two-year-old son Sebastian has not once halted her quest to conquer her dreams. Now, with a starring role alongside famed model-turned-actress Eva Marcille and singer/actress Drew Sidora in the upcoming film Sister Code, due out May 8, it seems Amber Rose is well on her way.

In the film, Rose takes on the role of Lexi, the youngest of three foster sisters who must finally come to terms with adulthood. After a life of depending on her sister and various romances, the 31-year-old decides to kick off a lingerie line to try to break the mold she's built for herself.

With the film marking Amber Rose's first major acting role, XXL spoke to the model about how she landed the role, what to expect in the movie and her acting aspirations. During our chat, we also touched on dealing with critics, her friendship with Blac Chyna and the standing of her new relationship with Machine Gun Kelly. —Miranda J.

XXL: So you have this new movie coming out, Sister Code, where you play a lingerie designer. Can you tell me a little about your role?
Amber Rose: I play the baby, the youngest one, the spoiled one, the one that kind of leans on her sister for everything. It’s basically just like the growing pains of coming into my own, just becoming my own person.

The movie will be in theaters?
Yeah, it will be. On May 8.

Do you plan to really go all-in with acting? Is this the first role of many more?
Oh yeah, for sure. I go on auditions all the time. I’m really excited about acting. I’m actually pretty good. I’m looking forward to it for sure.

Is this something that you’ve been wanting to do for a long time and it’s kind of just been put on the back burner?
Yeah, I would say so. I feel like just getting into something new is pretty intimidating in general. Definitely acting and going on auditions is a real scary thing, but once you go up and do it one time, you kind of get the swing of it. Then you just build that confidence up to go and try out for everything. I mean, the worst they could say is no.

How did you lock down this role? Who approached you about it?
My good friend Walter was a part of the behind-the-scenes. He called me up for the role. I auditioned and I got the part.

And it looks like you’re alongside some pretty well-known actresses. How has it been working with Drew and Eva?
Wonderful! They’re really nice girls and they really helped me to get my chops up. It was cool; I really learned from them every day.

Any other new roles on the horizon?
Actually there [are]. I don’t know if I could speak about them yet, but I’ll keep you posted via social media.

Speaking of things on the horizon, you’re releasing a book, right?
Yes I am. How To Be A Bad Bitch. It’ll be out October 27, but it’s on pre-sale now on Amazon. It’s not [about] being a bitch at all or a mean person, it’s being super nice, compassionate, well-spoken, financially stable, learning from your mistakes in life and growing. It’s definitely all the mistakes I’ve made in life; I do get very personal in my book. Just being on that path of being better.

So it’s more of an advice-driven book rather than stories and storylines?
I definitely have stories in there from my life, absolutely. I have a lot of stories in there and then also advice. I don’t have everything figured out, I’m still learning as I go also. I definitely learned a lot from my mistakes, so it’s me giving these girls a heads up before they make the same mistakes.

So will you be talking about past relationships in the book?
I touch on every aspect of my life.

I also have to ask because it’s been out there a lot lately. What’s going on with you and MGK?
We’re enjoying each other’s company.

Fair enough. You’re such a beautiful woman and you have such a boisterous personality and it seems people have a lot of misconceptions about you. What’s one thing that you really want to get out there?
That’s a good question. I guess it does become very difficult because media outlets, they post stories out of their asses. They’ll have no credibility or no facts. So one person will post a story and every other blog site will run with it. So it doesn’t really give a person the opportunity to shut everything down because it’s already kind of too late. Then it does become difficult. But I guess I’m really just a normal girl, I’m just from Philly. I’m a down Philly chick. I’m really sweet, I’m nice to everyone. I hardly ever say no to a picture with my fans. I really go out of my way for people who support me. I’m just all about women empowerment and coming together and being positive towards each other.

You’re not afraid to be you; it always shines through. Like, if you feel like twerking on Instagram, you’ll throw that up. What makes you not afraid to be you and not afraid of all the critics?
Well, I feel like you get to a certain point in your life where you just stop giving a fuck. You just have to live for yourself and not anyone else. I got to that point in my life where I just really don’t care what people say about me anymore because I could tell people until I’m blue in the face who I really am as a person and they’re still going to have a perception of me and believe what they’re going to believe. At the end of the day, I do everything and anything that makes me happy. I’m no longer stressed out by the bullshit.

Are there any events in particular—like becoming a mother—that made you adapt that mentality?
I’m not sure. I never really thought about that. I just feel like—especially in this business where there [are] things that are out of your hands, stories are just out of your hands, people’s perceptions of you are just out of your hands—you kind of just got to live. There’s no other way around it.

I see, too, that you have a lot of celebrity friends and they kind of just are attracted to you. I even see in a way that you’ve helped Blac Chyna; you kind of took her under your wing and helped her adopt a similar mentality.
Yeah, for sure. I’ve been in the game longer than her and I’ve experienced a lot more hurt and pain by internet bullies and just bullies in general. Now that she’s dealing with internet bullies and stuff like that, I just try to give her the best advice. I’m just like, "Babe, you have to live for you. Fuck everybody else. They’re not paying the bills. They’re not making you happy. They’re making you sad. So if they’re making you sad either way, you might as well just do what makes you happy."
