Wais P The Pimp was arrested yesterday in New York City as part of the NYPD's "Bright Lights, Big City" operation that targets sex trafficking in Midtown Manhattan.

According to the NY Daily News, the rapper, who dubbed his brand of hip-hop as "pimp hop," was arrested on Wednesday after appearing in Manhattan Supreme Court on a DWI charge. He was the fourth person arrested due to the "Bright Lights, Big City" operation since December 2013. According to court papers obtained by the NY Daily News, Wais P "advanced and profited from prostitution by managing, supervising, controlling, and owning" a prostitution enterprise with two or more prostitutes. He is currently being held without bail after being arraigned at Manhattan Supreme Court on Thursday. The arrest adds to Wais P's rap sheet. The MC has three prior arrests for DWI and arrests for assault and resisting arrest.

Before jumping into his solo career, Wais P was a member of Da Ranjahz, a Roc-A-Fella affiliated group who appeared on Jay Z's Vol. 2...Hard Knock Life and the Streets Is Watching soundtrack. In more recent years, the Brooklyn native has frequently collaborated with Statik Selektah, appearing on Statik's most recent projects What Goes Around and Boom Bap & Blues, his joint album with Jared Evan.
