Nelly Is Working on a Country EP

Nelly has always had an interest in country music, and now it looks like he will be dropping a country EP. While speaking with Billboard. co-president of Atom Factory and Nelly's manager J. Erving shared that the St. Louis native is working on a project entitled Heartland.

"He's a free agent on the label side now, and is working on a country-based Heartland EP, which should be really interesting," said Erving. "He may be one of the first hip-hop artists to jump into that space in an authentic way with Florida Georgia Line and Tim McGraw, so we think he has an opportunity to grow that base even more."

Nelly's 2004 single "Over and Over" featuring Tim McGraw was a successful blend of rap and country music. In 2013, the Country Grammar MC tried his hand at the genre again by remixing the FGL's "Cruise." Maybe a Nelly country project isn't that bad of an idea.

Nelly was arrested two weeks ago (Apr. 11) on felony drug charges after guns and drugs were found on his tour bus. Tennessee Highway patrol pulled his bus over for not having a required sticker. After smelling marijuana, they searched the vehicle and found five rocks that tested positive for meth, although Nelly's lawyers say it was MDMA. Authorities also found guns, a small amount of weed and 100 small Ziploc bags. The M.O rapper has since apologized for the incident, saying, "I feel the need to take responsibility for my choices in needing to be more aware of all the people I associate with and allow onto my property."
