Though Lil Durk recently laid his friend and manager, OTF Chino, to rest, he is drawing nearer to a more positive milestone: the release of his Def Jam debut, Remember My Name. The promising Chicagoan will fall in line with the label's current tendency toward leaner albums; clocking in at just 10 tracks, Remember should be a good primer on Durk, one of the city's most dynamic vocalists and one of drill's finest practitioners. The album features a contribution from fellow Chicago native Jeremih and Def Jam labelmate Logic, who appear on "Like Me" and "Tryna Tryna," respectively. The latter could be an interesting exercise in form; through Logic's cerebral boom-bap seems removed from Durk's orbit, each is studied in the craft and could strike an exciting middle ground. Last year's big Def Jam Chi-town linkup, Common's Nobody's Smiling, made inroads with the tightly-knit group of twenty-something artists, sporting Durk's partner in crime Lil Herb on the opening track.
