Today, April 8, is the birthday of legendary rapper, beatboxer, DJ and hypeman Biz Markie.

Ever since his breakout hit with 1989's "Just a Friend," Biz Markie has been a unique voice in the world of hip-hop. Coming off his second album, The Biz Never Sleeps, "Just a Friend" showcased Biz's rap/sing style, awesome comedic timing and beat boxing talent that made the song peak at number nine on the Billboard 200. "Just a Friend" went on to go platinum in 1990.

Releasing five studio albums in total, the last being Weekend Warrior in 2003, Biz Markie continues to contribute to hip-hop with his signature brand of showmanship. Markie has collabed with the Rolling Stones, Wu-Tang, Coolio, Fat Joe and more. He also makes regular appearances on TV shows such as Nick Cannon's Wild 'n Out and kid's shows Yo Gabba Gabba! and Spongebob Squarepants.
