The bond between a father and his daughter can't be broken, no matter how long tour life keeps Fashawn away from his baby girl. In the video for "Higher," a cut from Mass Appeal debut Ecology, Fashawn gives an intimate look into his life as both a father and a rapper. Flashing between clips of Fashawn playing shows in support of his album and in a field with his daughter, Fashawn shows the work-life balance holds true no matter what a person's profession is. "The video brings the song to life in an organic and beautiful way," said Fashawn via a press release. "There isn't enough positive images of young black men out there being fathers to their kids to begin with, especially in rap videos. I believe it's a break from the norm and a side of me that my audience doesn't get to see everyday." Check out the video above and keep an eye out for Exile lurking in the back.

After keeping fans waiting for five years for the follow up to Boy Meets World, Fashawn finally dropped The Ecology back in Feb. In that time, Fashawn nearly quit rap before he got the call from Nas and signed with Mass Appeal Records to rejuvenate his career. Fashawn spoke with XXL earlier this year about his time between Boy Meets World and The Ecology and how having a daughter changed his life. "Just becoming a father and having no other option except like, 'Yo, I gotta provide for my little girl, my seed. I have to.' And I am, no question. I'm not one of those niggas who leave their baby mama and their child behind and the kid grows up without a father, I'm not that guy, even though I was birthed by those people. But I guess I channeled that rage and resentment into me being a better father, you know what I'm saying? Yeah. Shout out to Mass Appeal, I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for them.
