Common's music has always dealt with the ethereal--good vs. evil, right vs. wrong, Lonnie Lynn Jr. vs. the kids who robbed his grandmother. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the rapper-turned-actor-turned-rapper-again has signed on to star in Suicide Squad, the Warner Bros.-produced, David Ayer-directed film that features an all-star lineup of famous DC Comics super villains. The flick already boasts Jared Leto as the Joker, fellow MC Will Smith as Deadshot and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, not to mention roles for Joel Kinnaman, Cara Delevingne, Viola David, Adam Beach, Ike Barinholtz, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Scott Eastwood. Rumor has it that Jesse Eisenberg and Ben Affleck may make cameos as Superman and Batman, respectively.

Though the Chicago rapper has found considerable success as an actor, starring in a dynamic range of production from big-screen rom-coms to AMC period pieces, it was his first love, music, that scored him that elusive Oscar. This February, Common and John Legend were honored with an Academy Award (for Best Original Song) for "Glory," their contribution to the soundtrack for the movie Selma, in which Common also starred. It was a busy 2014 for the Be rapper, who also dropped his 10th solo album, the lean, No I.D.-produced Nobody's Smiling. Later this year, Com will curate his hometown's second annual AAHH! Fest
