In their continuing quest to bring the base elements of hip-hop to the forefront, Red Bull has taken it upon themselves to once again host a competition to crown one of the country's most promising young DJs. On Saturday (April 4), DJ J Espinosa took home top honors at the Red Bull Thre3style National Championship, where he prevailed over four other finalists, including hometown favorite DJ Akshen. The panel of judges was comprised of Four Color Zack, who won the world championship in the 2012 edition of the same contest, as well as mashup pioneer Z-Trip and the legendary DJ Jazzy Jeff. Espinosa, who hails from San Francisco, advances on to the world level in Tokyo later in 2015, where he will represent the United States.

Espinosa is not your typical aspiring DJ; instead of the usual docket of club dates and whatnot, he's the official in-game DJ for both the Oakland Raiders and San Francisco Giants. He reached the national competition by wining this year's North West regional bout; he won the San Francisco Red Bull Thre3style competition in 2013. If you happen to live in the Bay area, Espinosa can be found on your radio dial at Wild 94.9 FM.
