Young Thug and Travi$ Scott Turn Up at NYC Show

Young Thug and Travi$ Scott brought their Rodeo Tour with Metro Boomin to New York City last night for two straight sold-out shows at Webster Hall in Manhattan. The first, which kicked off around 8:15, was all too brief (clocking in at just over an hour and 20 minutes) but provided enough energy to spill over into moshing, flying elbows and at least three stoppages to attempt to remove passed out audience members from the front rows. Not necessarily the best scenario, but the crowd was definitely feeling it.

Young Thug opened the show encouraging the crowd to chant "Free Gucci!" and set the tone with a few cuts including his verse on Tyga's "Hookah" before passing the mic over to Scott. The two traded back and forth the whole night, alternating three or four songs apiece and generally switching up the energy. Scott's "Quintana" and "UPTown" then melded into Thug's "Imma Ride," "About The Money" and "Stoner" before transitioning back into the H-Town MC's "Don't Play" and "Upper Echelon." The difference in energy was clear between the two; Scott's sections were more intense, the crowd feeding back his lyrics word for word and generally getting wilder whereas Thug's had more of a party feel, with a groove that spread throughout the audience that was infectious any time he graced the stage. To put it simply, Young Thug exudes cool while Travi$ Scott demands it. There are benefits to each approach, but they produce a different reaction from audiences.

Unfortunately, the semi-frequent stoppages to allow security to clear out fans who clearly couldn't stand wound up killing some of the show's momentum until the set-closer "Mamacita," Scott and Thugga's collab off Scott's Days Before Rodeo mixtape that turned the energy back through the roof. Ten seconds of "Lifestyle" brought the first show to a close early, but before long the second show lifted off around 11:30 that night and was even more turnt up in every conceivable way. Thugga brought Birdman to the stage to say a few words and smoke a cigar during "Imma Ride" and Wale joined Travi$ Scott for "Bounce It" with the whole show wrapping up somewhere around one in the morning (S/O to Real Talk NY for the video below). One thing you can't accuse this Rodeo Tour of is a lack of energy and firepower. It seems that at every performance, Travi$ Scott and Young Thug just get better.
