Today, March 16, is the 40th birthday of West Coast indie mainstay Murs. The Los Angeles-born MC began his career in the mid-'90s as a part of the Living Legends collective. Although he released his debut album F'Real in 1997, it wasn't until his 2003 album The End of the Beginning on Def Jux Records that Murs first broke out on the independent charts. Since then, he has released three solo albums, Murs For President in 2008, Love & Rockets, Volume 1: The Transformation in 2011 and Yumiko: Curse of the Merch Girl in 2012.

Murs has also released an astonishing 11 collaborative albums, including three acclaimed LPs with producer 9th Wonder. He is also a member of the group Felt with Slug of Atmosphere. In 2014, Murs signed to Strange Music and fans of the eccentric MC were ecstatic! Murs dropped his ninth studio album, Have A Nice Life, in May 2015, followed by his most recent project Captain California earlier this month. This year, he's on the verge of releasing his latest album A Strange Journey Into The Unimaginable. He has also dropped two new videos for the album's singles. The visual for "Melancholy" follows Murs as he walks through the city, culminating in him performing at a small show. The video for the second single, "Same Way," features Tech N9ne rescuing Murs from a date gone horribly wrong.

Happy Birthday, Murs!
